Fender Play Review
Fender Play is a subscription-based guitar lesson platform that aims to help people learn the instrument from the comfort of their own homes. The app’s instructors break down complex concepts into easily digestible lessons and guides that beginners can follow. The service is self-paced, meaning that users can work through lessons at their own speed and practice as often as they like. The app’s instructors also provide helpful practice tools, including a tablature player and backing tracks. The app also comes with a feature that allows players to earn “streaks” for practicing consistently (at least 7 minutes, 3 times a week).
In addition to the standard features offered by most guitar lesson apps, Fender Play boasts some unique ones. For example, it offers song-based tutorials, which feature a teacher giving a detailed breakdown of the song’s finger placement, strumming patterns and picking techniques. This is accompanied by a backing track, which lets users feel like they’re jamming with a band. The app’s chord challenge mode also helps students improve their finger dexterity by requiring them to pick out all the different chords in a given song.
Another nifty feature is its feedback mode, which records how well a student performs a song and scores it. This is a great way to keep students motivated and accountable for their progress. It’s important to note, however, that compared to similar-priced platforms, Fender Play doesn’t have the most extensive song catalogue or advanced courses.
